Harvest in Southern Oregon is always a time of excitment, anticipation and patience. The vineyard looks fabulous and we are already looking for things we can do better or different next year. We have taken off the top two blocks of our Cabernet Sauvignon and the upper half of the top block of Syrah. All of the wineries seemed to be very pleased with the fruit. This will be our first year of doing a reserve. We dropped fruit down to one cluster per shoot. The fruit looked lovely and we have picked the Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Oddly enough, this year we are waiting on our Merlot. In the past years, the Merlot has been the first to come off. In talking to Randy, our vineyard manager, he said that a lot of vineyards are waiting on Merlot this year. I am thinking this is going to be a great year. It somewhat reminds me of our 2006 harvest. We had to wait and wait that year as well. We harvested into November in 2006 and it is looking the same for this year. The past two days were 80 degrees out here, so we are definitely not done with the warm weather yet.
